I want to make some solder sculptures with copper sheet metal, but i don't know what gauge copper i should us?

I want a type of copper that can easily bend but hold shape, not wrinkle, and be easily cut with scissors. and what gauge brass with the same specsI want to make some solder sculptures with copper sheet metal, but i don't know what gauge copper i should us?
Brass in the same gauge as copper is going to be harder to cut and stiffer. Both by the way will ruin scissors for other uses and you may wish to buy a small tin snips with hardened blades.

A bunch will depend on the history of the sheet as both metals work harden, so if it was rolled and not annealed, it will be harder than if annealed. If you hammer or otherwise work the sheet, it will get harder and you will have to heat it with a torch and let it cool. Normally copper and brass are ';pickled'; in a mild acid solution after annealing and before hammering further to knock off oxide.

It depends on what you want to do as to thickness. I would suggest, if you live in the States, going to a hardware or hobby shop that carries the K%26amp;S Metals display.http://www.ksmetals.com/ and get a selection of 4x10'; pieces of the brass (fewer choices in copper) flexing them gently in the store to make a first judgment as to too thin or too thick. If you want something in between what they offer, you will have to go to a non-ferrous metal supplier in a nearby city or online.
