.030'; flux cored wire will work if you get .030'; tip to accommodate the wire. Otherwise, the larger wire will jam up in the tip. It will take a little more power to run it and if you haven't already done it you might have to change the taps in the welding machine for the power requirements of tubular wire over solid.





The quality of the off-brand wires varies greatly and you may find that you may yet need to run it with shielding gas anyway, to protect the arc pool. Personally, I like dual shield II.





Also, on the 'house current' type of smaller machines, the drive rolls are usually designed to be used with wires up to .035';; it is worth taking a peak to make sure, so they don't slip. Otherwise you will have to get larger drive rolls.





As for the sheet metal? How's that working for you? Cause, generally a solid wire works much better on sheet metal, by far. I prefer E70-S

Harbor Freight, I buy them all the time.
Airgas or Trigas should have them if they dont they can order it
