How much does the materials to make a trombone cost? (sheet metal/brass)?
A lot of it comes from the stature of the maker, some parts vary widely in price. Ok for me building french horns: A bell from the far east is $189, from a top German shop $700. A valve could run from $80 to $600. Straight pipes, filled with a bending agent can be about $10 a foot. You will need tapered pipes also for the rear tuning crook, I expect you will need to get those pre made unless you have a draw bench.


Labor? Figure $45 to $200 an hour, depending on the fame of the maker. Then add 35% markup for the seller... watch the video below!


You get parts from original companies like Conn, or you can buy them from repair places like ';Allied';, you can get junk parts at the music store to play around with or order new parts from Germany.
