The best way to weld to thin metal on a car is to braize it with an acetylene welding rig but it can be done with a mig welder if you have lots of experienceWhat can i use to weld sheet metal to my car???

You are better off with a wire welder MIG this way you have a lot better control of the heat. where braizing you can get the metal too hot and make more holes than you had in the first place.
a MiG welder is the cheapest and easiest to use,it takes very little time to get to be able to use a mig welder and it will do an excellent job on all kinds of sheet metal,i have done a few cars and haven't burned though on one yet and the price of the newer migs is down a lot as compared to what it use to be,good luck with it.
