Is the building trade/sheet metal trade a good career choice for more money and benefits?

do you make good money? Good retirement? Is the building trade/sheet metal trade a good career choice for more money and benefits?
Sheet metal per se isn't really a trade. Most commercial structures use sheet metal wall studs, with heavier steel for the frames. If you wanna build frames, that's ironworkers. If you wanna build walls and doors, that's carpenters. Both make good money, especially if you're in a union... non-union pay a bit less or possibly a whole lot less. I highly recommend union work, especially for ironworkers, because unions are generally much more concerned about health and safety issues. Non-union contractors are much more likely to push people to work unsafely in the name of speed.
