I can't figure out this one problem. The width of the metal sheet is 5 cm, and the length is unknown (y). There's a hole in it that measures 2 cm wide with an unknown length (x). With the hole, the area of the metal sheet is now 49cm^2. How do I solve this? Solving for x and y.What are the dimensions of this metal sheet?
it's impossible to solve, x and y could be anything, here's an example, if x is 12 then 5x12 = 60, 60-49=11, so y = 5.5 because 2x5.5 = 11, there's an infinite number of possibilities, so it's a trick question.
